James TOOKE, II  (bet.1600/1620 - 1662)

He arrived at the Virginia Colony aboard the ship "George" in 1621 and in 
1625 was living at "Pasbyhays" in James City. He requested the permission 
of the Council to remove to Mulberry Island in 1626. He represented Isle 
of Wight County in the House of Burgesses in 1639. He was awarded a grant 
of 178 acres on 14 Sep 1653 "upon the head of one of the Blackwater 
branches, beg. near the Thos. Pritchard cartway"; and on 19 Feb 1662, the 
tract was turned over to Thomas Tooke as "son and heir" of James. His will 
was dated 1 Feb 1659 and was recorded on 2 Feb 1662. He was a devout ad-
herent of the Quaker faith and active in the local church.
