Rowland JONES (1644 - 23 April 1688) He was graduated from Merton College, Oxford 13 Nov 1663, at age 19. He immigrated to Virginia in 1674. His sponsor was William Debram. He was the first minister of Bruton Parish, in York County, Virginia. At the time, this place was called Middle Plantation; its name later changed to Williams- burg. In 1684, he received a commendation from the House of Burgesses for the sermon he preached before the General Assembly on 17 April.
