Robert BRASSWELL/BRACEWELL (1613 - 14 March 1667/8) He was educated at Oxford and matriculated at Hart Hall on 22 Feb 1627/8 at age 15. He graduated with a B.A. on 3 Nov 1631. He was the first of the family in Virginia, arriving in 1651. In 1653, he was elected to the House of Burgesses, but removed about a week later because his position as minister was felt to conflict with the government's policy of separation of church and state. He purchased 300 acres of land in Isle of Wight County Virginia from Capt. John Upton in about 1652. In a deed wherin his son sold land, he was described as "clerk", or minister of the Church of England. His will was dated February, 1668; probated 1 May 1668 in Isle of Wight Co., Virginia.
